Congratulations for achieving the wonderful honor of membership in the Pinnacle Honor Society. I am Sue Maes, Dean of Continuing Education at Kansas State University. It is my privilege to bring congratulations to you from our Provost Duane Nellis and President Jon Wefald.

All across the country you are joining other honored students who represent American students who have re-entered higher education at a non-traditional age. Whether you are a working parent, a retiree who returned to higher education, or a mid-life adult starting a second career, you have met high academic standards and are selected for recognition through membership in Pinnacle Honor Society.

With the expressed purpose of recognizing qualifying non-traditional students for their achievements, Pinnacle Honor Society began in 1989 with a select group of 100 colleges and universities. Today, over 125 institutions of higher learning hold membership in Pinnacle. To be eligible for the society, a non-traditional student must have at least a 3.25 GPA, be of Senior standing, and have demonstrated leadership, persistence, and future promise. The K-State chapter also requires that you have completed at least 12 hours here at Kansas State University.

It is recognized that you have truly reached a “pinnacle” of achievement. Not only have you excelled in your academic studies, but you have maintained a mountain of other responsibilities — parenting, work, and community involvement. Many of these took precedent over college, but you had the perseverance to achieve a high academic standing while maintaining your extended responsibilities. Earning honors under these challenges is to be applauded.

Kansas State University is pleased that you are a member of the student body and extends a warm congratulation on obtaining the honor of becoming a Pinnacle Honor Society member, an honor well deserved.
