Academic Advising Master’s Degree

The Academic Advising master's degree program is designed for practicing advisors and administrators desiring more formal education relating to academic advising, for faculty seeking advising knowledge beyond their discipline, and for students anticipating academic advising roles. This program, in partnership with the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), consists of 30 credit hours of coursework.

Agribusiness

This program focuses on mid-level agribusiness managers who need to make informed decisions based upon a thorough understanding of current issues facing agribusiness managers who need to make informed decisions based upon a thorough understanding of current issues facing agribusiness managers. Offered over a 2 ½ year period, courses are paced to ensure an even course load, with introductory courses followed by more advanced and applied work. On-campus courses are contained in two one-week, short-course sessions per year. The rest of the agribusiness course work is taken online.

Engineering Degrees

The College of Engineering offers master's degrees to international students via distance education in Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Software Engineering, Engineering Management, and Operations Research. There is no residency requirement or on-campus course attendance required for these degree programs. However, most programs require a one-time campus visit at completion time, for an oral examination. The master's degrees in engineering would be of interest to professional engineers and computer scientists who already have bachelor's degrees. The courses are delivered via the Internet.

Gerontology

Gerontology is the multidisciplinary study of the aging processes and individuals as they grow from middle age through later life. Those in the gerontology field may work directly with older persons in a wide variety of programs and services in the community. Others work on behalf of older persons in areas such as advocacy and teaching aging. Program content for this degree is based in core competencies identified by AGHE (Association for Gerontology in Higher Education).

Merchandising

The Master's in Merchandising degree program is part of the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance and is designed to be completed in a minimum of two years. The program offers coursework related to consumer behavior, product design and development, retail practice and theory, issues in global trade and retail systems, and professional leadership development.

Personal Financial Planning

This master's degree program enhances personal financial knowledge and prepares individuals to sit for the CFP Certification Examination. The program incorporates macro and microeconomics, finance, financial planning ethics, computer applications of financial data, and counseling skills.

Youth Development

The Youth Development master's degree provides a strengths-based approach to professionals who work in youth-related fields. The program allows students to understand, integrate, and apply conceptual approaches to youth development, including asset building, positive youth development, community youth development, risk, and resiliency.
