Kansas State University

Admission Requirements

Mechanical Engineering courses can be taken for graduate credit leading to a master's degree or a limited number of courses (up to nine credit hours/units) can be taken without formal degree candidacy. All students must apply for admission to the Graduate School as either a Mechanical Engineering MS degree candidate or as a special "nondegree-seeking" student and must submit a copy of their undergraduate transcripts. Nondegree-seeking students are normally required to meet the same academic standards as other graduate students.

How Do I Apply?

To apply as a degree-seeking student, follow instructions and complete the admission form at http://www.k-state.edu/grad/gsprospective/apply/index.htm. All application materials should be sent directly to the MNE department. (See "Contact Us".)

Applications are reviewed in the spring for entry during the fall semester and in the fall for entry during the spring semester.

Degree-Seeking Students

Admission with full standing requires that the applicant meet the following requirements:

  1. A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  2. An undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or above for the last 60 hours of courses taken.

Note: The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is not required for candidates holding a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.

Students with degrees from foreign institutions will be required to take the GRE and may be required to take the TOEFL exam.

Program of Study

Students admitted to the ME graduate program will work closely with an advisor to tailor a program of study to meet their needs and interests and to choose a focus for their degrees, while conforming to the academic requirements and standards of the department and the university.
