Kansas State University

Admission Requirements

Electrical Engineering courses can be taken for graduate credit leading to a master's degree or a limited number of courses (up to 9 credit hours/units) can be taken without formal degree candidacy. All students must apply for admission to the Graduate School as either an M.S.E.E. degree candidate or as a special "nondegree-seeking" student and must submit a copy of their undergraduate transcripts.

Graduate application information and forms can be found at http://www.eece.ksu.edu. Click on "Graduate" and then on "Application Information and Forms." All application materials should be sent directly to the EECE department (See "Contact Us"). Up to 10 hours of appropriate graduate credit from other recognized universities may be transferred, subject to department approval.

Degree-Seeking Students

Admission with full standing requires that the applicant meet the following requirements:

  1. A baccalaureate degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering. Students with degrees in physics, mathematics, computer science and other areas are also accepted into the program. These students may be required to complete some undergraduate electrical engineering courses prior to full graduate admission.
  2. Background in calculus including differential equations (K-State-MATH 240), probability and statistics (K-State-STAT 510), circuit analysis (K-State-EECE 510 and EECE 511), electronics (K-State-EECE 525 and EECE 526), linear systems (K-State-EECE 512), control systems (K-State-EECE 530), electromagnetics (K-State-EECE 557), energy conversion (K-State-EECE 581), and microcontrollers (K-State-EECE 431). An electrical engineering technology degree covering these topics does not usually qualify a student for admission. Some of these requirements may be waived for students with significant work experience in a relevant field. Contact the EECE Department (grad@eece.k-state.edu) for further information.
  3. An undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or above (junior/senior years).
  4. For candidates not holding a B.S. degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution, the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required. Minimum scores on the GRE are: Verbal - 400; Quantitative - 600; Analytical Writing - 4.5.
  5. A TOEFL score of 250 is required for each applicant whose native language is not English.
