Certificate Program
The Educational Computing, Design, and Online Learning program at Kansas State University offers coursework leading to a Graduate School Certificate Endorsement (not the same as licensure) in Classroom Technology for elementary and secondary teachers, school library media specialists, technology coordinators, and administrators. While the Certificate has uniform exit outcomes, the curriculum is designed to meet individual professional goals, skills, and needs in order for graduates to personalize the enhancement of knowledge and skills. Some coursework from other universities may be transfered.
Online Coursework
All coursework is available online.
Emerging Technologies and “Real World” Emphases
Newly designed courses take a broad view of teaching and learning in the context of “virtual learning”—learning in which the world is the classroom—beyond the traditional training of educational technology programs and certificates.
Program Benefits
In addition to Kansas State University professors, highly qualified adjunct faculty from schools and districts across the state bring classes to your area via distance learning.
Certificate Benefits
The state of Kansas does not have computing/technology licensure for elementary or secondary teachers. Completion of a course of study leads to the K-State Graduate School Certificate (not the same a licensure). This Certificate and transcript endorsement assures school administrators that the graduate has completed a program of study leading to competence in integrating technology into teaching and learning through:
1. Understanding educational technology and curriculum and instruction research and theory to develop and assess student learning experiences.
2. Recognizing the impact of emerging technologies and applications in teaching and learning.
3. Creating effective, diverse learning experiences.
4. Creating standards-based technology projects with students.
5. Creating a licensure-based professional portfolio.
Program Goals, Mission, and Outcomes
The faculty provide instruction, consultation, and scholarship, which focuses on creating “knowledge architects”—school and district leaders who think critically about how best to use technology to support student knowledge development, creation, and assessment. The standards are:
- Ethical decision-maker
- Critical thinker
- Effective communicator
- Connected collaborator
- Diverse learner
- Information navigator
Faculty promote: ethical decision-making, methodologies that concentrate on quality technology adoption and implementation, student-centered approaches, authentic assessment, and the educational value of clinical experience. To this end, they engage in a range and intensity of leadership activities, which bring attention at the state, national, and international levels of their skills at informing the profession and creating a modern curriculum infused with technology that increases achievement and enhances both assessment capabilities and the joy of learning.
