Sample Theme: Race Relations in the American South HIST 533: The Civil War lays the foundation of Southern race relations by describing the conflict that brought freedom to the Slaves and destroyed the racial status quo of the American South. HIST 533: Modern Southern History details the history of the South from Reconstruction to the Civil Rights era while paying special attention to changing racial relationships. HIST 533: Eyes on the Prize presents the history of the Civil Rights movement in America and discusses the role of African Americans in seeking equal rights in the South. SOCIO 570: Race & Ethnic Relations in the U.S.A. focuses on discrimination and conflict in racial relations between dominant and minority groups in the United States.
