Location
The Rapid Methods and Automation in Microbiology Mini-Symposium/Workshop will be held June 13-20, 2008 at the Clarion Hotel (formerly the Holiday Inn), located at 530 Richards Drive in Manhattan, Kansas, and at Call Hall and Trotter Hall on the Kansas State University campus.
The Clarion will be the location of the two-day mini-symposium on June 13-14, as well as workshop lectures and banquets. Workshop labs will be in Call Hall. The Molecular Detection Day on June 18 will be in Trotter Hall, which is part of the Veterinary Medicine Complex on campus.
Accommodations
A block of rooms has been reserved at the Clarion for our participants. Please refer to the Rapid Methods Workshop when making reservations directly with the hotel at (785) 539-5311, FAX: (785) 539-8368. The rate for single or double occupancy is $71 per night. Please make reservations before May 15, 2008, to receive the reduced rate.
Campus residence hall facilities featuring single rooms with bathrooms on each corridor are available for workshop participants for $34 per night. Transportation to and from workshop lectures and activities will be provided throughout the week. Meals are available for purchase in the residence hall dining center. Transportation
Manhattan is charming city is approximately 130 miles west of Kansas City on Interstate Highway 70, a scenic drive of about two and one-half hours. KCI RoadRunner is an airport van shuttle service that runs between the Kansas City International Airport and Manhattan. Schedule information and shuttle reservations are available online or by calling toll free (in the United States) 1-800-747-2524. Manhattan has a regional airport served by US Airways. US Airways Express offers three roundtrip flights each weekday and each weekend to Kansas City. The Rapid Methods International Microbiology Family
- Previous participants, numbering about 3,500 scientists since the first workshop in 1981, have come from 46 states and 60 countries.
- Since 1990, 35 internationally known scientists have been designated as Distinguished Fellows. Since 1987, more than 50 outstanding graduate students and scholars have been named Fellows.
- At the 25th anniversary celebration in 2005, silver medallions were presented to participants, presenters, exhibitors, and industry representatives.
