Speakers
KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Dr. Marilyn Ward of Florida is our exciting keynote guest. Marilyn's research interests include studies on American folk music as it is taught in our schools. She has discovered that the most likely state to have folk music in music classes is Nebraska, but Kansas is a very close second. She will also bring information on international children's folk songs and Jamaican children's folk songs.
Dr. Ward will also address what is happening in other countries within their efforts to pass down their cultural heritage and music as it connects to other fields. Included in her presentations will be how some efforts to define beauty in music have been applied to the fields of architecture, plastic surgery, and science. Please come to learn many new interesting ideas from this dynamic young music educator. We are thrilled she is able to join Symposium 19 as we continue on our journey together.
ADDITIONAL SPEAKERS
An array of additional speakers from the national venue including examples of excellence in music teaching drawn from our own Kansas ranks will be involved in this year's symposium. Sessions on financial planning for the coming years, health-related issues, and board certification plans will be mixed in with music education topics of interest. You will be able to see our fabulous new technology classroom and "try out" our fancy new equipment as well! Come expecting a bushel basket full of ideas as you journey on to next year.
K-State faculty including Jana Fallin, Fred Burrack, Frank Tracz, Paul Hunt, and Reg Pittman will be involved in this year's symposium.
