Climate in Rhode Island

Rhode Island's average temperature for the entire year is near 50 degrees, with April through June and September through mid-November the most delightfully moderate seasons. January and February are the coldest months, with a mean temperature near 29 degrees, and July and August the warmest, with a mean close to 72 degrees.

Rhode Island has no regular "rainy" or "dry" season, with precipitation fairly evenly distributed throughout the year. The first measurable snowfall of winter generally comes toward the end of November, but may be as late as January. The month of greatest snowfall is usually February.

Conference Attire

Casual dress is appropriate through the meeting. For comfort in the air-conditioned meeting rooms, a light jacket or sweater is suggested. Some suggested items that will be helpful in making your stay pleasant include an umbrella, comfortable walking shoes, and several extra changes of clothing.

T.F. Green Airport

T.F. Green Airport was recently named one of the "Top Five Alternative Airports" in the country by Forbes magazine and received a Reader's Choice recommendation from Condé Nast Traveler. Just off Exit 13 on Interstate Route 95, Green Airport is accessible to Boston, Cape Cod and Southeastern New England It offers more than 160 direct flights via major carriers.

Shuttle service

The distance from T.F. Green Airport to the downtown area is 9 miles and taxi's will cost approximately $30.00 each way. The airport shuttle is available 7 days a week from 5:00 am to 11:00 pm. The shuttle leaves the airport every hour on the hour. From the hotels they leave every hour on the ½ hour. After 7:00 pm reservations for the shuttle are required from the city only. Logan International Airport

Logan Airport is situated approximately 49 miles north of Providence. Outlined below are public and private transportation options.

The majority of international flights arrive at the terminal E; some international flights leave the terminals. At the Information Center they will communicate in one’s own language. The center of information is situated in the terminal E leaving the customs area.

Massport offers free service between airline terminals and all airport locations for persons with disabilities. At Logan, please call (617) 561-1769 for this service.

Train Service from Logan

Providence is located on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor between Washington DC/New York City and Boston. High speed Acela Express train service transports passengers from New York City to Providence in about two and a half hours. For tickets call 1-800-USA-RAIL or visit www.amtrak.com.

The Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA) runs low cost commuter trains to Providence from Boston and other points in Massachusetts. Call 1-800-392-6100 or visit www.MBTA.com for schedules and fares.

Amtrak offers many daily runs between South Station and Providence. South Station may be accessed from Logan Airport by either Silver Line Shuttle or Taxi. The Silver Line service takes approximately twenty minutes. An adult fare is $1.25. A taxi will cost about $15.00 and will take about 10 minutes.

Regional trains take 48 minutes and range in price from $12.00 to $19.00

The Acela ranges from $22.00 - $45.00 and takes 40 minutes

The Providence Train station is located 5 blocks from the Westin, Courtyard and Biltmore.

Taxis are readily available outside the station. Cost is approximately $5.00

Bus Service from Logan

Bonanza (888-751-8800 or www.bonanzabus.com) and Greyhound (800-231-2222 or www.greyhound.com) have stations in the Providence area. For local public transportation, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) runs buses and trolleys statewide (800-244-0444 or www.ripta.com).

In Terminals C & E, all rental car companies have direct line telephone boards connecting to the local facility and their worldwide reservation centers.

Each rental car company has complimentary shuttle buses that transport passengers to/from the terminal and the rental car facility. Shuttles run frequently and stop curbside on the arrival level for passengers to board. Departure level service is available on request.

Private cars

Private cars will cost approximately $125.00 each way.

Limousines are available only by advanced reservation.

***All taxi's departing Logan are charged an additional fee of $2.00, plus a $4.50 fee for harbor tunnel crossings. Always ask driver for a receipt.

Driving Directions to Providence (Rhode Island Convention Center)

From the North

Interstate 95 South to Exit 22A. Follow the signs towards Downtown/Convention Center. Go through the first light in the right hand lane. Take your first right after the light. Take the next right onto Exchange Street. After the next light, bear right between the Hotel and the Convention Center to the North Garage.

From the South

Interstate 95 North to Exit 22A. Follow the signs towards Downtown/Convention Center. At the light, turn right onto Francis Street. At the next light, go right onto Sabin Street. Bear right between the Hotel and the Convention Center to the North Garage.

From the East

Take 195 West. Merge onto 95 North to Exit 22A. Follow the signs towards Downtown/Convention Center. At the light, turn right onto Francis Street. At the next light, go right onto Sabin Street. Bear right between the Hotel and the Convention Center to the North Garage.

From the West

Take Route 6 East to the "Route 6 East and I-195 South" on ramp. Take a right and stay to the right following the signs to Providence and Route 6 East (you will use part of the I-195 on-ramp to get onto Route 6 East). Stay on Route 6 East to the end (sign will read "6 East to 10 North") and stay to the left. Continue to the Dean Street Exit. Once on the exit ramp, stay to the left so that you will be on the left side of the island when you reach the light. Turn left onto Dean Street (4 lane road). Then immediately take your first right onto West Exchange Street to the Convention Center Garage.

Loading Dock

The Loading Dock is located on West Exchange Street about 1/8 mile west of the North Garage entrance. Large trucks should use the following directions for easiest dock access.

Truck Directions from the North

Take Exit 21 (Atwells) from 95 South. Turn right onto Dean Street. Turn right at the light onto West Exchange Street.

Truck Directions from the South

Take Exit 21 (Broadway) from 95 North. Take a Left at the 2nd light (Atwells). Turn right onto Dean Street. Turn right at the light onto West Exchange Street.
