Greening the Meeting
At the 1997 meetings in Seattle, it was decided that the Environmental Quality Committee (now the Conservation Committee) would develop recommendations to minimize the environmental impact of the Society's activities. The committee has developed a list of possible actions relating to the annual meeting that can be implemented with minimal inconvenience to the organizing committee and to the membership at large. Many of these suggested actions are dependent on a decision by the Society as to whether and how much members are willing to trade off convenience for cost in the process of reducing environmental impacts (fortunately, many proposed actions are actually money-savers). Our objective in these "greening" efforts is to fulfill the general mission of the annual meeting in the most efficient, environmentally sound, and economic manner possible. The following measures have been implemented for the 2008 Joint Meeting of Ichthyologists and herpetologists:
- The Meeting Announcement has been posted on the web rather than printed.
- Abstracts are submitted electronically.
- Confirmation of abstracts received and scheduling announcements are sent electronically.
- Registration confirmations are sent electronically.
- The meeting participant list will be posted on the web site.
- Only washable tableware is used for breaks.
- Paper copies of abstracts are available by request only. Abstracts are burned to CD and posted on web site.
- The program book is printed on recycled paper.
Internet Access
A small Internet café is available in Fréchette on Level A for JMIH participants. The café will be available from 7 a.m. - 6 p.m., Wednesday, 23 July - Monday, 28 July. Two printers are available in the Internet café to print boarding passes.
The Sheraton has wired High-Speed Internet access available in each guest room. There is a daily fee of $14.75 for these services.
Business Center
A fully automated, self-service Business Center is located on Level A. It is open 24 hours. Services include:
- Facsimile transmission
- Personal computer (PC) with MS Office software
- Laser printer
- Photocopying
- High-speed Internet acces
Food and Beverage
A continental breakfast will be served in the Salle de Bal/Ballroom from 7 - 8 a.m. each morning. Morning and afternoon beverage breaks will be served with the exhibitors in the Salle de Bal/Ballroom. A cash bar will be available during poster sessions, 4 - 6 p.m., Friday - Sunday, 25-27 July.
