Airlines
The Louis Armstrong International Airport (504-464-3547) is conveniently located only 15 miles from the Central Business District and French Quarter, a quick trip no matter which means of transport you choose. It offers direct and nonstop service to more than 100 cities on 17 domestic and international airlines, including the following:
Air Canada, Air Tran, America West, American Airlines, Continental, Delta, Frontier, jetBlue, Midwest, Northwest, Southwest, Grupo TACA, United, and US Airways. Taxicabs, shuttle buses, limousine service, and public buses are all available for transportation to the hotel. Rental car services are also available at the airport.
Airport to Hotel Shuttle Service
Airport Shuttle Inc. (866-595-2699 or 504-522-3500) is the official ground transportation for Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and offers convenient services to and from New Orleans’ hotels. Round trip is approx. $26. Tickets may be purchased in the baggage claim area on the ground floor. No reservations are needed for arrivals, but are required for departures. Departure reservations can be made at the time of purchase. Airport Shuttle, Inc., of New Orleans is offering JMIH participants a discount of $2.00 dollars off each purchase of a roundtrip shuttle ticket from the airport to the hotel.
Rental Car Discount
AVIS Rent-a-Car, our official rental car supplier, is offering a special conference discount to all our attendees. When you register, you will receive the Avis Worldwide Discount (AWD) Number so you can benefit of special rates when you make your rental car arrangements. Reservations can be made by calling Avis directly at 1-800-331-1600 or by visiting the special Joint Meeting of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists AVIS reservation Web site. The discounted overnight parking rate at the Sheraton New Orleans hotel is $13.50 per day plus applicable taxes.

Climate in New Orleans in July
New Orleans has a subtropical climate with pleasant year-round temperatures. Temperatures range from the mid 40’s in winter to more than 90’s in the summer. Average maximum and minimum temperatures in July are 91 and 73 degrees, respectively. Rainfall is common in New Orleans, with a monthly average of about five inches of precipitation. The rain may add to the humid conditions, so you will be most comfortable if you bring several extra changes of clothing. See additional climate and weather data from the National Weather Service.
Conference Attire
Casual dress will be appropriate throughout the conference and for all social and recreational activities. In July, New Orleans is generally hot with the possibility of some rainfall. For comfort in the air-conditioned meeting rooms, a light jacket or sweater is suggested. Some items that will be helpful in making your stay pleasant include an umbrella, comfortable walking shoes, and several extra changes of clothing.
