IPPS History

The IPPS started in the United States in 1990 as the “National People Plant Symposium”, which led to a request from the participants to continue having conferences on this interdisciplinary subject and the formation of the People Plant Council. A series of biennial meetings is the result. There were many participants from oversea countries to these symposia so beginning with the 4th People-Plant Symposium they have been referred to as “International” symposium. In 1998, the 5th IPPS was held in Sydney, Australia, the first time the meeting was held out of the U.S. The 8th IPPS was held in Awaji, Japan, the first to be held in Asia.
