The Courses
About the 40-Hour Training Course
This course satisfies the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.120 for OSHA's Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HazWOpER) 40-Hour Training. HazWOpER 40-Hour training is required for anyone working at Treatment, Storage, and Disposal facilities (TSD's) and at hazardous waste clean-up sites. The training is also required for those persons responding to emergencies involving hazardous materials. Persons taking this course will receive a certificate that will allow employment in the previously mentioned areas.
This Hazwoper training will include an overview of federal regulations, toxicology, hazard communication, site management, air monitoring, site characterization, operating procedures, safety, spill clean-up, and more. The class will also write and review health and safety plans, emergency response plans, and incident command procedures.
The course will meet from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday for the January 2008 session. The course will meet in Edwards Hall, Room 11 at K-State, and includes lecture, classroom exercises, and actual field experience. Participants will be expected to suit up in protective equipment including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and level A full containment suits. Students should be in good physical health since wearing protective equipment places physical demands on the body.

The course is designed for any individual who has previously completed the 40-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response training, including faculty and students working with hazardous substances in the laboratory and on field sites, as well as first responders or industry hazardous materials handlers.
