Dr. Stuart Warren received a B.S. in Forest Science from the University of Illinois in 1974 and went on to complete an M.S. in Forest Ecology / Soil Science in 1977. He remained at the University of Illinois until 1980 serving as a Data Management Specialist and went on to own and operate Yard Works Landscaping in Fairfield Illinois until 1982. He received his PhD in Horticultural Science / Soil Science from North Carolina State University in 1986 and remained there until 2007. In his years with North Carolina, Dr. Warren served as Researcher (1986-1987), Assistant Professor (1987-1991), Associate Professor (1991 -1996), and Professor (1996-2007). Since 2007, Dr. Warren has served as Professor and Head for Kansas State University’s Department of Horticulture, Forestry, and Recreation Resources.

Dr. Cathie Lavis received a B.S. in Agronomy from Oklahoma State University in 1986. After graduating, Cathie managed a retail garden center and landscape company in Texas. In 1993, she completed her M.S. in Ornamental Horticulture from Kansas State University. After serving as a graduate teaching assistant for several horticulture courses at K-State, she was hired as an instructor in the Department of Horticulture Forestry and Recreation Resources (HFRR) in 1993 and in 2005 she earned her Ph.D in Agronomy from Kansas State University.
