K-State Professor Leads Special Commencement Ceremony for Alaska Graduates

The ceremony had all the pomp and circumstance associated with any graduation: professorial regalia, speeches, a torchlight procession, a wandering dog, the ritual burning of term papers…

Well, maybe not any graduation. This one took place this summer against the backdrop of a log home and the blue Alaska sky, where two Kansas State University distance education graduates marked the completion of their master's degrees with the help of Gayle Doll, K-State assistant professor in gerontology and director of the Center on Aging. – Full story

September 2008 Issue of “The Leading Edge – a Newsletter for K-State Distance Students

The Leading Edge” is published online five times each year to help distance students develop a connection with K-State, even if they never get to come to the Manhattan campus. Each issue provides information about university services, faculty and staff, campus events, and other information valuable to all Wildcats, near or far.

Online Education Expert to Lecture on Mileposts to Distance Learning in K-State Presentation

An expert on distance learning will conduct an interactive lecture on the need for training and support to ensure high quality online university courses as part of the third annual Axio Learning Conference at Kansas State University.

Darcy W. Hardy of the University of Texas TeleCampus will present “Sometimes Good is Good Enough – Sometimes It's Not” at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, in the Flint Hills Room of the K-State Student Union. Her lecture is sponsored by K-State's Division of Continuing Education and office of mediated education. – Full story

Brownfield Redevelopment Workshop Sept. 9-11 at K-State

Redeveloping contaminated properties for beneficial use by the community is the topic of a special workshop at Kansas State University. From Brown to Green: Sustainable Redevelopment of Contaminated Properties Workshop will be Sept. 9-11 at the K-State Student Union.

The workshop, which is coming to Manhattan after being conducted in Chicago, the Quad Cities and Springfield, Mo., includes expert speakers on sustainable design and redevelopment. The workshop will include a bus tour of potential brownfield redevelopment sites in Manhattan and Junction City, as well as interactive design sessions where workshop participants will learn to apply the principles of sustainable design and redevelopment to the sites visited on the tour. – Full story
