K-State to Offer New Online Course in Physics for Science Teachers

Physics for Science Teachers, PHYS 515, is being offered through Kansas State University's Division of Continuing Education for the fall 2008 semester.

The course will prepare science teachers for the Physics Praxis exam. Topics include mechanics, thermodynamics and the atomic model of matter. All work can be completed online. – Full story

K-State Division of Continuing Education Awards O'Bannon Scholarships

Kansas State University's Division of Continuing Education has awarded the Maurine Allison O'Bannon Scholarship to seven distance education students for the fall 2008 semester.

The O'Bannon scholarship provides financial aid to undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled in a degree program through K-State's Division of Continuing Education. The scholarship honors the memory of Maurine Allison O'Bannon at K-State. Scholarships are awarded in both the fall and spring semesters. – Full story

K-State Online Graduate Certificate in Statistics Strengthens Student's Studies in Chemical Engineering

Biofuels Symposium Sept. 16 at K-State

Kansas State University's first Sustainability of Biofuels Symposium will be Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the K-State Alumni Center.

The symposium will cover the sustainability of biofuels production and processing in the Central Plains. The target audience includes university faculty and staff, state and federal agency personnel, farm groups and industry representatives from Kansas and neighboring states. – Full story

Bridge Workshop Oct. 3 at K-State

Kansas State University's Bridge Erection Workshop will be Friday, Oct. 3, at the K-State Student Union.

The workshop is ideal for professional engineers, engineers-in-training, contractors and engineering technicians involved in bridge fabrication and construction, bridge design, and bridge rating and inspection. It will review the latest developments in bridge design practice and load and resistance factor design. It also will provide information about available resources from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, Federal Highway Administration and the Kansas Department of Transportation. – Full story

Fall Enrollment Under Way for K-State Distance Education

Enrollment for Kansas State University distance education courses offered during the fall 2008 semester is under way.

K-State currently offers more than 40 distance degree programs and certificates and hundreds of courses for distance and place-bound students. – Full story

K-State to Offer New Online Intercollegiate Athletics Course

Kansas State University will offer the online course Intercollegiate Athletics and the Student Athlete, EDCEP 761, for the fall 2008 semester.

The course examines policies and procedures of the NCAA, as well as roles and responsibilities within a department of intercollegiate athletics. The course will especially be of interest to college and university advisers and others in student personnel; high school coaches and athletic directors; and others interested in NCAA athletics. – Full story

K-State Offering Refrigeration in the Meat Industry Workshop

Kansas State University's Division of Continuing Education is sponsoring a two-day intensive short course on refrigeration as practiced in the meat processing and refrigerated storage industry.

The Refrigeration in the Meat Industry Workshop will be 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 1-2 at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel near the Kansas City International Airport, Kansas City, Mo. – Full story
