Citizenship, Civic Engagement Focus of Two Conferences at K-State

Kansas State University will be the host to two conferences relating to citizenship and civic engagement. Both conferences will be at the K-State Alumni Center.

The Kansas Council for the Social Studies conference, “Preparing Enlightened and Engaged Global Citizens,” will be Thursday, Nov. 1. This conference will feature presentations on the Kansas social studies standards and assessment, as well as teaching and learning history, government, geography and economics. Presenters include several K-State faculty. Former Kansas Gov. John Carlin, now a visiting professor of political science at K-State, will give the keynote address. – Full story

Continuing Education Organizations Honor K-State with National Awards

A Kansas State University distance education program and distance education technology have received national awards from two continuing education organizations.

The Association for Continuing Higher Education awarded its 2007 Distinguished Credit Award to K-State's comparative food and agriculture systems course, AGEC 710. The class is offered through the K-State department of agricultural economics and the Division of Continuing Education. It is taught by five international professors and gives students an understanding of international agriculture. – Full story

K-State at Salina to Offer Distance Education Course in Airport Planning and Management

Kansas State University at Salina will offer a new airport planning and management course through continuing education beginning in spring 2008. The course will be offered online with some field components, including an actual airport inspection.

Kurt Barnhart, head of the aviation department at K-State at Salina, said the course will add to the school's already well-rounded aviation program and provide a new opportunity for students. – Full story

Academic Advising Master's Degree Available through K-State Distance Education

Kansas State University, in partnership with the National Academic Advising Association, will offer a master of science degree in academic advising through K-State distance education.

The 30-credit-hour master's degree program offers two areas of emphasis: administration of academic advising or intercollegiate athletics and the college student. – Full story

K-State Evening College to Offer Courses for Second Half of 2007 Fall Semester

Kansas State University's Evening College will be offering courses for the second half of the fall 2007 semester beginning Monday, Oct. 15, for people interested in continuing their education and completing their degrees.

Evening College offers courses between 5:30-10:30 p.m. on K-State's Manhattan campus, making it possible for those with busy daytime schedules to attend classes during convenient evening hours. – Full story

K-State Wins Regional Awards from University Continuing Education Association

Kansas State University has received multiple Great Plains Region awards from the University Continuing Education Association for its distance education faculty, staff and technologies.
