Dean of Continuing Education Honored at Retirement Reception

A reception was held at the K-State Alumni Center on May 17 to honor Elizabeth Unger, vice provost for academic services and technology and dean of continuing education. Dean Unger is retiring July 1 after serving over a decade in her current position and over 40 years as a professor of computer science at K-State

Dean Unger was the third woman to graduate from Michigan State University with a degree in engineering. She later obtained her Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Kansas and has become a pioneer for the use of technology in education at K-State. – Full story

K-State Offering Virtual Commencement for 2007

Kansas State University's Division of Continuing Education is offering a Virtual Commencement to honor K-State distance education graduates unable to attend the on-campus commencement.

The Virtual Commencement website will include a ceremony with congratulatory remarks by K-State staff as well as a virtual reception area where messages can be posted to this year's distance graduates. To post a message, visit www.dce.k-state.edu/students/commencement/reception.shtml

K-State to Offer Stream Channel Field Course in Wyoming

Kansas State University is offering the workshop, Stream Channel Field Course: Mapping and Assessment of Natural Stream Channels, July 23-27 in Sheridan, Wyo.

The workshop will teach how to organize and analyze stream data and how to map stream channels in keeping with the principles of natural channel hydrology. These skills will be taught through lectured instruction and four days in the field. – Full story

K-State Division of Continuing Education Forms Alumni Advisory Committee

Kansas State University's Division of Continuing Education has a long track record of award-winning programs in adult and distance education. Now K-State will continue to solidify its position as one of the leading programs in the country with what is believed to be the first distance education Alumni Advisory Committee, made up of former off-campus and distance education students.

The first meeting of the advisory committee was April 26 via teleconference. The advisory committee members also will be using chat sessions and listservs to conduct their work. – Full story

K-State to Offer Grant Writing Course Through Distance Education

Kansas State University will offer the distance education course, “Grant Writing: Finding the Elusive Dollar,” EDACE 786, for the fall 2007 semester.

The course is for people interested in writing grants in a wide variety of fields, including community initiatives, state agencies, volunteer work, all levels of education and self-employment. – Full story

K-State's Pinnacle Honor Welcomes More Than 50 New Members

Kansas State University's chapter of the Pinnacle Honor Society gained more than 50 new members at an induction reception April 23.

Pinnacle is a national honor society for nontraditional students who are juniors or above and have at least a 3.0 grade point average. – Full story

Food Defense Course Offered May 21-22 at K-State

Kansas State University will offer Principles of Food Defense for the Food Industry, FDSCI 630, May 21-22 as a part of K-State's May intersession. The one-credit course will be on the Manhattan campus.

The course is available for graduate or undergraduate credit and will provide students with an understanding of the principles required in a food defense program for a food manufacturing, warehousing or distribution center. – Full story
