Food Defense Course Offered May 21-22 at K-State

Kansas State University will offer Principles of Food Defense for the Food Industry, FDSCI 630, May 21-22 as a part of K-State's May intersession. The one-credit course will be on the Manhattan campus.

The course is available for graduate or undergraduate credit and will provide students with an understanding of the principles required in a food defense program for a food manufacturing, warehousing or distribution center.

Topics covered include defining threats and aggressors, the Bioterrorism Act, food defense teams, vulnerability assessments, security policies and programs, physical security measures, recall and traceability basics, security inspections, crisis management, emergency preparedness, and workplace violence.

Completion of the course will better prepare students for the challenges faced with developing, implementing and managing an effective food defense program.
