Position Description - Coordinator
Kansas State University’s Division of Continuing Education is seeking a Program Coordinator to develop and coordinate conferences, symposia, workshops, exhibits, and other events. Primary responsibilities will include development and coordination of campus conferences and events serving youth audiences, higher educators, state employees, and community members. In addition, this person will work as a team member in the coordination of several large national conferences. Efforts will also be directed toward assisting the colleges with development and delivery of online noncredit courses.
The Program Coordinator must have experience in coordinating events including all aspects of pre-planning, on-site management and post-planning activity. The Program Coordinator will be expected to conceptualize and establish new programs and identify different audiences. The candidate should have a background in program development demonstrating success in leading a planning team from inception through production of an event. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for handling site inspection and selection, vendor identification, as well as negotiation and contracting. Experience in creating and monitoring budgets, working with speakers, and producing event time lines is required. Familiarity with on-site logistics including function space assignment, room set, catering, and AV arrangements is necessary. Evidence of work to market events as well as leadership in planning and production of events is expected. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to work well with a variety of people and organizations. The candidate must have aptitude for multi-task management and the ability to respond to potentially high stress situations with tight deadlines and last minute changes in direction or anticipated outcome. Travel is required several times during the year and some conferences require weekend work. The coordinator will work as team leader on projects within Division of Continuing Education and Kansas State University to develop or enhance services.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience in coordination of events for audiences of all sizes
- Experience in all aspects of conference/meeting management, including preparation of budgets and marketing and promotional materials
- Ability to work with diverse audiences and changing environments
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven record of organizational and administrative skills
- Personal computer skills
- Strong skills in time management, attention to detail, follow up, and the ability to meet deadlines
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in conceptualization and development of new programs
- Work experience in higher education
- Familiarity with educational technologies
- Master’s Degree
Salary: $22,200 - $25,200
Appointment Conditions: This is a .6 appointment with the possibility of becoming a full-time appointment. It is a Term 12-month appointment
